The BUFFALO is a wild mammal that lives and grows in the fresh air all year long. It feeds on grass during the summer and on hay during the winter.

BUFFALOES live happily in simple pastures; they are disease resistant and require very little care. They also tolerate intense cold weather.

In the past, BUFFALOES wandered in the plains in herds of tens of thousands, too numerous to be counted.
The buffalo was considered North America's most important wild animal. It symbolized wealth and it was very present in the lives of American Indians; they would use it for food, clothing, shelter and crafts.

Practically extinct at the end of the 19th century, the buffalo population started to grow again because of the tremendous effort made by the first defenders of the environment and by ranch owners. Numerous herds of buffaloes, private or public, are presently bred in the United States and in Canada.
